My art is rooted in emotion and identity. I began creating masks in college, and over the years they have become vessels for everything I experience as a woman, a Latina, and the daughter of immigrants. My work often responds to moments when I have felt silenced, judged, or unseen.
Cultural symbols such as braided hair, red lips, flowers, feathers, and charro bowties ground my pieces in my heritage and honor my family’s story. I distort forms intentionally, inviting the viewer to linger, to question, and to feel. Texture is essential in my process because touch represents empathy and connection.
My work holds grief, resilience, memory, and joy all at once. Art has always been my therapy and my voice. My hope is that when people encounter my pieces, they sense the emotion within them and perhaps find a reflection of themselves.
