My artwork is created using a mixed-media approach that combines acrylic and oil on canvas. I begin with acrylics—often using fluid acrylic pouring methods—to build the foundation of the piece. This process allows color to move organically across the surface, forming natural marbling, veining, and unexpected blends that can’t be fully planned. I work with the flow of the paint, tilting and guiding it to create depth, motion, and layered transitions. These poured acrylic passages become the “atmosphere” of the painting: a dynamic background full of energy, texture, and suggestion.
Once the acrylic layers have cured, I return to the canvas with more traditional techniques. Using brushes and controlled application, I refine areas, introduce intentional shapes, and strengthen composition. This is where I balance spontaneity with structure—responding to the patterns created by the pour and shaping them into a cohesive visual story. In some works, I preserve the abstract movement as the main focus; in others, I incorporate realistic elements that emerge from the flowing color, allowing the subject to feel discovered rather than imposed.
Oil paint is typically introduced in later stages to add richness, clarity, and dimensional detail. Because oils offer a slower drying time and a different handling quality than acrylics, they allow for smooth blending, subtle transitions, and heightened realism where needed. I use oil to deepen shadows, enrich highlights, and create focal points that contrast with the fluid unpredictability of the acrylic underlayers. This interplay—between the fast, free movement of poured acrylic and the deliberate, patient refinement of oil and brushwork—is central to my process.
Overall, the technique is a conversation between control and release. Fluid acrylic methods bring an element of surprise and movement, while traditional brushwork and oil detailing provide precision and intention. The final surface carries both qualities: the spontaneity of poured color and the craftsmanship of hand-painted refinement, resulting in paintings that feel vibrant, layered, and alive.
