The work I create represents a lot of where I’m from, my culture and my experiences. I choose cacti a lot in my paintings for their resilience and strength, turning them into crowns on the portraits I paint. I love working with patterns and fabrics and blending the two together, creating this sort of contemporary bohemian desert imagery mixed with old southwest tales.

What does Deep ellum mean to me?

To be honest I’m not sure what Deep Ellum means to me…but it’s how I see it. I see Deep Ellum as this new and “otherworldly” place that has grown and re-grown again and again from a historical time in Dallas. And that has developed and embraced creativity and individuality in its ever so evolving surroundings. What I see is a very important thing happening here, to the arts and to art culture…and that can mean…well, a lot to creatives like myself.
