Ceramics

As the daughter of an artist, my love for all things art came at an early age. As soon as I could hold a pencil, I was doodling, painting, gluing things together, and generally making a mess. My mother once said she knew I was going to be an artist when an elementary school teacher said my desk looked like it belonged to Pig Pen from the Peanuts cartoon; smeared ink and pencil, blobs of glue and colored paper stuck to the desktop, and as colorful as a pop-art painting. I was enrolled in art classes from the beginning of my education, and that continued at University of North Texas. I took every art class that was available, from painting, to jewelry making, fabric arts, sculpture, ceramics, and more. I fell in love with Ceramics and was fascinated by photography, so I eventually earned my fine arts degree in those arts. Since then, I have taught many art classes, and with each one I teach, I learn and grow more in my own arts. While my primary love is ceramics, I will continue to explore and create all the art that I can, because I believe that art is life, and without it, there is nothing.

What does Deep ellum mean to me?

I came to Dallas in 1990 to attend UNT, and frequented Deep Ellum almost every weekend. From clubbing, to eating, and getting tattoos, I’ve always loved everything about it.
