Tony Rail- Most of my paintings, drawings, and relief prints are parts of a narrative situated around a 2D animation that I’m working on about ambulance life. My subjects float between politics and identity, cartoon and realism, and everyday life. As someone with bipolar, I’m building a story that I can fall back on for when things go south, one that leaves a trail to how I got here. I live in Dallas with my dog, Glenn, and make art while not tired as hell from work.

What does Deep ellum mean to me?

Deep Ellum is a corridor of fun, a place to let loose and grab a bite to eat before a show. I pass through there weekly when I go get groceries and it’s impossible not to look at the people lining the block, wondering what band is in town. Before I even moved down here I went to see shows here, like the Dandy Warhols, and was thankful that I got to see J. Roddy Waldron & the Business at trees before they broke up. It’s a continuous source of cultural expression and is a sorely needed voice in the metroplex.
