What does Deep Ellum mean to you?
John Lightle
As an artist and musician, Deep Ellum has been to me a blend of Dallas nostalgia along with cutting edge artistry, with introductions to new concepts. Although some new concepts in the past have missed, I still enjoy exploring what Texas artists have to offer.
Kaia Beggs
The world. I've been a patron since the late '90s, early 00s, and have lived and worked here for over 10 years. I cut my teeth at The Church, Trees, Curtain Club, Galaxy Club... oh and my mom lived here for a while in the same lofts I'm in now. The best chicken fried steak is at AllGood Cafe, and I will die on that delicious hill.
Jim Brightwell
I have lived in the Dallas area my whole life. We started going to Deep Ellum back in the 80's when it first became club, restaurant and shopping destination. Through the years I have been in Deep Ellum for concerts, meals and shopping. Have done quite a few projects down there when I was in the construction business. Recently I have been showing art there as well. Just a great place for many things.
Rebecca Wilson
Deep Ellum is a part of Texas with so much soul. Deep Ellum drives to maintain and grow the arts in this vibrant community. Deep Ellum offers a space for new and recurring artists to showcase art. Keeping the culture and the vibe stronger than ever in the great state of Texas.
Alexis Goes
I moved to Texas when I was 15, Deep Ellum is a big part of my life. I grew up going to the midnight coffee shop and attending concerts and art shows. It is a staple of Dallas and I would love to be part of the art festival.
Jose Fernandes
As an European immigrant/African American couple we feel connected to Deep Ellum in the long history of intersectionality of our two cultures and in the rich musical legacy created by them. For us, New Orleans and Deep Ellum are kindred spirits and keepers of the soul of America. Having participated in 2 Deep Ellum editions, one with the old organization and last year with the new, I've experienced the unique nature of the neighborhood that with New Orleans make up a rare phenomena in the United States.
Carissa Nalley
Deep Ellum has always been a celebration of the music and arts. I have many core memories of music and dancing in my early 20s. It’s been a place I’ve considered home away from home. I’ve gone through a lot with being raised in an environment that did not nurture my love of art. I was welcomed by Debbie Driscoll and treated with such immense respect! She made me feel like my art and heart mattered. I have this extremely positive outlook on Deep Ellum being the true heART of Dallas. Deep Ellum has had its misconceptions, and I still find it to be an incredibly alluring place. The smells, the atmosphere, the weird, and quirky parts that a
Steffie Molla
I am not from Texas. When I first got here I spent I whole year out of place. The first art show I ever did was in Deep Ellum- Deep Ellum helped me feel connected here in Texas. I continue to be astounded by the kindness and selflessness I get met with every time I go to into Deep Ellum. For a show or otherwise. I know if I need help with something, someone there will have my back. The sense of community is there.
Jason Wallerstein
The town/city of Deep Ellum means (to me) a great sense of hand made, punk-rock, colorful, do it yourself art community with deep roots of a do it yourself funky style.
Amber Zapata
Deep Ellum was my connection to my friends and to the arts (music, visual arts). It's a part of my identity and shaped my views of my community by opening my mind to new ideas, beliefs, and finding common ground with others.
Jeremy Serna
Deep Ellum arts festival is the place I started my art career. My first ever art show was in Deep Ellum and it gave me the confidence to continue as an artist in this extremely hard industry
Andrew and Blair Hillis
Deep Ellum is a place that has given us amazing memories throughout our lives. Whether it is the numerous venues that Andrew has performed at with previous musical acts as a vocalist and guitarist, living nearby and going to the local restaurants/bars, or walking the streets at past arts festivals as loyal patrons, Deep Ellum means a lot to us. We participated in the 2023 Deep Ellum Community Arts Fair and would love to be a part of the event again in 2024! We hope to hear from you soon, thank you for your consideration.
Lauren Briere
Creative energy! And again, the smiles were what I noticed the most in Deep Ellum. Everyone’s just happy to be a part of it!
