I make drawings, paintings, collages, woodblock prints, and photos that revolve around the narratives I’ve written for my animation, Run The Streets. The narrative is about working on an ambulance in Milwaukee but goes further to explore the human experience. In this study, the subjects my work take on a myriad of forms from the figure to the landscape. I may hyper focus on the backgrounds of the lake or the fireworks sign, or fixate on an 80’s pickup truck falling from the sky to represent the mental condition. The Al Bundy, Married With Children, living room entered my work over a decade ago. I use it because of its simplicity, the 90’s sitcom living room universality, and because it was my old man’s favorite show for a while. In that space the couch serves as the symbol of domestication and home while the figures, symbols, and objects drawn around it may serve to reinforce or contradict that notion. Living in Texas and making the drive to and from Milwaukee has informed my work, as well as given perspective on the idea of home, a visual space for memories, and the temporal versus permanent nature of animation and comic books. I have been animating a series of shorts since my college days at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The first installment, Ignition, appeared in the 2009 Milwaukee Short Film Festival.
