What does Deep Ellum mean to you?
Michelle Pennington
During my time living in the DFW area, I thoroughly enjoyed the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere of Deep Ellum. From its incredible music scene to its great food, the neighborhood had a relaxed and inviting energy that made it a standout part of Dallas. One of my most memorable experiences was assisting my professor, Justin Ginsberg, with his pop-up art shows. These events transformed old, industrial buildings into unique art spaces, creating a raw and authentic backdrop for the work. This setting made the art feel more accessible and relatable to a broader audience.
Looking back, I wish I had spent more time in Deep Ellum. The neighborhood
Liz Wallace
Deep Ellum holds a special place in my heart as I often visited many of the bars and restaurants during my time in college. It's grown with me and I've enjoyed the many of the shops and special events held there. Like buying spices from the 1890 Marketplace, looking at the wild shoes at Fluevog or visiting the Sons of Herman Hall for their events. It lets me relax and accepts all the eccentric individuals around Dallas.
Robert Fernandez Palavicini
Deep Ellum is a unique center of art and culture and local lore that makes it a must see place in North Texas! It would be an honor for me to be able to attend this Community Arts Fair.
Anthony Mikkelson
It's a confluence of various arts and cultures, hip-hop, metal, punk, and pop. It's got a bustling food scene, art scene, and venue space with a bourgeoning residential (high-rise apartment) community.
Samantha Sanders
Deep Ellum is, in my mind, the art capital of DFW. It is a place where people of all walks of life come together to express themselves with art.
Fabian Mattiza
I have always loved the diversity and cool, unique vibe. I draw quirky characters that I hope will fit right in with the overall fun experience of Deep Ellum
Andrew and Blair Hillis
Deep Ellum is a place that has given us amazing memories throughout our lives. Whether it is the numerous venues that Andrew has performed at with previous musical acts as a vocalist and guitarist, living nearby and going to the local restaurants/bars, or walking the streets at past arts festivals as loyal patrons, Deep Ellum means a lot to us. We participated in the 2023 Deep Ellum Community Arts Fair and would love to be a part of the event again in 2024! We hope to hear from you soon, thank you for your consideration.
Logan Fogarty
Having grown up just north of Dallas (Richardson), Depp Ellum was always the "cool" placed to go hang out. As soon as my friends and I were old enough, we would hop on the DART and ride it all the way down to Deep Ellum feeling like the world was at our fingertips. So many fun times were had from my teens and into my 20s. Now as I am older and have learned about the rich history within this community my love for it has only deepened. Deep Ellum will forever be my favorite neighborhood in Dallas.
Jason Welch
Having lived in Dallas since 2001, 13 years of which were in Little Forest Hills in East Dallas and 1 year in Deep Ellum, and working full time as a gigging musician for much of that time, I have spent countless hours in Deep Ellum making music and maneuvering that scene, Deep Ellum had a lot to do with my development as an artist.
Tish Amparan Danie
Great memories of my time at the University of North Texas in Denton. We would often spend Deep Ellum weekends enjoying music, art and getting my first tattoo before anyone in my family did, making Deep Ellum a fun and rebelious memory.
Carissa Nalley
Deep Ellum has always been a celebration of the music and arts. I have many core memories of music and dancing in my early 20s. It’s been a place I’ve considered home away from home. I’ve gone through a lot with being raised in an environment that did not nurture my love of art. I was welcomed by Debbie Driscoll and treated with such immense respect! She made me feel like my art and heart mattered. I have this extremely positive outlook on Deep Ellum being the true heART of Dallas. Deep Ellum has had its misconceptions, and I still find it to be an incredibly alluring place. The smells, the atmosphere, the weird, and quirky parts that a
John Fesken
Well, Deep Ellum has been in my heart since the early 2000's, having first visited to perform with a music group at a DIY performance space/indoor skatepark. Wild times for sure. From then on it's been on my radar, performing in town several times in the following years. When I started doing art festivals the Deep Ellum art fest quickly became a staple in my yearly art tours. whenever passing through with friends or family we always stop in town for a bite and check out "the big eye" before we split. I've always enjoyed the neighborhood's eclectic scene however it's the people that make a community special and I've met some magical folks ther
